As part of the Heritage Open Days (HODS) Edible England theme, Woodbridge Rotary Club will be producing a digital Food to Fork record that will be available to HODS attendees during the week of Fri 10th to Sun 19th September. This will involve a series of short videos of retailers, farmers, fisheries, bakers amongst others. Once HODS week is over, this record will be available to school children and interested parties through a digital hub. So far, the Club has agreement to work with a number of local food outlets, including Melton Produce, The Cake Shop, Gressingham, James Foskett Farms and the Fish Box.
The second event that The Club will produce is a Woodbridge Cookbook for which we will seek donations in aid of a local charity. After HODS this will be on sale with the money going to the same charity. We are asking local people to send in recipes for inclusion within the booklet. We would like to receive recipes that children can produce and eat. And to this end we are in the process of working with a local primary school to get involved with producing cakes that can be sold in aid of their school funds during HODS week.
One of the key parts of the Club’s project is to work with other interested parties and to this end we are pleased to announce that the Woodbridge Tide Mill will be involved.
The Museum will be running an exhibit: The Staff of Life at the Tide Mill during the Edible Woodbridge week and on Sunday 12 and 19 entry to the exhibit will be free to mark the Edible Woodbridge Heritage Open Day. The Staff of Life exhibit will highlight how flour as a raw material is used for the creation of bread and explain how people were reliant on its supply to survive. The collection of period baking utensils, associated particularly with the baking of bread, and archive documents will reflect the importance of flour as a staple food in England. Objects will be displayed on a mock kitchen as if in use.
