Land of Ice & Fire - The Nature of Iceland By Alan Thorpe
Alan is emeritus professor of biological sciences, Queen Mary, University of London and previously lead of RSPB Chelmsford and Central Essex Local Group. This talk centres on the breeding birds of Iceland in relation to their environment and their migratory links to the UK and Africa. The volcanic nature of Iceland will be illustrated and references made to significant recent and past volcanic eruptions. Iceland has a lunar landscape with wonderful waterfalls, glaciers, geysers, heathland, lakes and sea cliffs with countless puffins, gannets, kittiwakes, guillemots and others. Put quite simply, it is a marvellous place in which to enjoy nature.
